I Learned Something About Myself…
My last few blog post have been about communication and I want you to know I have learned a lot just from this short series.
Actually, I learned a lot about myself.
I definitely need to work on my listening skills. 🙂
You have probably been told to “tell your story”. A agree with this, however, there is a time and place to share your story.Â
Sometimes we need to listen to someone else’s  story when they are struggling, going through a tough time, or need some help.
I found myself in this situation this past week.
As you may or may not know, I am also a Realtor in addition to being a Network Marketer. I had the opportunity to list a house for 3 siblings whose dad had just passed away.Â
This was a difficult time for them and I found myself wanting to share a story about my recent loss of a friend. Both occurred the same week.
I stopped myself a couple of times from speaking…
Knowing I should be listening instead….
Do you think they were interested in the story of my recent loss?
Of course not.
They had their own difficult situation to tend to.
Had it not been for my recent research on effective communication skills I would probably have opened my mouth instead of my ears.
It’s not that I didn’t know the importance of listening….
It was actually on my mind more.
Think about this.
Although it’s different communicating with someone face-to-face than it is online, we need to “read between the lines” when we are chatting, messaging, and replying to emails and listen to what others are saying.
That “someone” you’re talking to may be struggling and coming to you for help.
During the 21Day Blogging Challenge in which I am participating, I have read some awesome blogs that were written with the intention of helping others. Â
These were so great I created a document with links to certain blogs to use for future reference. These blogs are helping me.
So many tips, tools, and training has been provided that I wanted to make sure I could have easy access to them.
I would like to invite you to join me and many others in the 21 Day Blogging Challenge. It’s all about helping each other succeed.
It’s easy to get so wrapped up in your own life that you forget about helping others.
Take time to listen.
Take time to help others.

Such a great reminder, Sherry – open your ears instead of your mouth and listen! It’s so easy to just blab away with our story and not be sensitive to what others are experiencing. Good for you for noticing and being there for that family. Thank you for sharing this valuable information!
Thank you for the nice comments Robin. I too am glad I am listening more. It’s so easy to “speak before we think” and I’m feeing more aware that I’m “thinking”. Thanks again for the comments!
