8 Reasons Why To Use In LinkedIn For Your Business
If you are trying to appeal to other businesses and individuals by using social media, LinkedIn is one you can’t ignore.
Posting on this social network, which has over 347 million active members, is a great way to grow your brand and generate income.
In the past LinkedIn as been regarded as glorified resume’ site but not any longer.
LinkedIn Features
Did you know that….
1. You can publish content right on the LinkedIn platform? Posting your blog content instead of just linking to it, as the engagement is so much greater.
Simply go to the home page of your account, hover over the pencil icon I showed you earlier. When you do this it will reveal the text “create a post”.
Once you’ve clicked on the link, it will then direct you to a page where you will see a blank blog post ready for you to populate with your headline and main copy.
You can create a new blog or simply add your blog from your website.
2. LinkedIn has a section for Skills & Endorsements that is pretty awesome. When people are endorsing you, it’s an additional way to stay connected because you are notified and that creates another reason to respond to them personally.
3. LinkedIn as a ”Who’s Viewed Your Profile” feature along with a “People You May Know” feature and this is very helpful in creating more connections.
This feature which is accessible in the main navigation via the Profile drop down, enables you to drill down into which other LinkedIn users have visited your profile page (so yeah, exactly what it sounds like).
4. 94% of B2B marketers us LinkedIn compared to 87% who use Facebook
5. You can check the analytics: LinkedIn gives you great analytics to show you the success of your articles. This gives you a great opportunity to pay attention to which types of articles are getting the most views, comments, and social shares.
6. Stay on top with Network Updates.
Found on your LinkedIn homepage, Network Updates are essentially LinkedIn’s version of the Facebook News Feed. Check this feed periodically for a quick snapshot of what your connections are up to and sharing. You can also sort by various criteria as well as customize your feed to show only the types of updates you want to see.
7. Allows you to export connections.
Want to transfer your LinkedIn connections to another contact management system? LinkedIn enables you to easily export your connections. Under Network in LinkedIn’s top navigation, just click on Contacts, click the settings gear icon on the top right, and click Export LinkedIn Connections under Advanced Settings on the right. You’ll have the option of either exporting as a .CSV or .VCF file.
8. You can include a link to your blog, rather than choosing LinkedIn’s standard “Blog” anchor text, customize it to include keywords that indicate what your blog is about. Each profile can display up to three website links like this, and they can be customized by editing your profile, clicking the pencil icon next to your website links, and selecting Other in the drop-down menu.
My Personal Experience With LinkedIn
I have made a lot a great connections on LinkedIn and I think the content shared there is more beneficial than in some of the other social media networks. However, a word of caution…
Even though LinkedIn does not have a LinkedIn Jail (to my knowledge) like Facebook Jail, it’s still easy to get blocked from posting.
When joining groups, be sure to read the group rules. If you plan on posting your blog make sure you are allowed to do so in particular groups.
Why? I have never been in Facebook Jail but I was banned from posting or commenting in ANY LinkedIn groups for two weeks. It took some effort of my part to determine why this happened but the bottom line was that an owner of a group I was in said “the banner on my blog looked like a lead capture page”. Not my post…but my banner.
When I was reported to LinkedIn, I was banned for two weeks and had to contact several of the group owners to be reinstated back in the group.
I didn’t stop me. I’m just more careful.

Let me share the simple 3 step process we do.
1. Blog Daily
2. Tell Others
3. Get Paid
Can you do that? You bet you can!
Sherry, Thanks for the information on Linkedin. I never really understood Linkedin. I used it to connect with people and joined a few groups, but I have never posted anything to the site. I thought you had to pay to do things like that.
Thanks for your comments Deidre. You can pay to advertise and they have something called upgrading…but I have never done that. When you join groups you can post your blog (most of them anyway) in the groups and comment on other blogs too. It’s kind of like FB but much less spammy.
Also, you can create a post which I think is pretty awesome. That’s where a lot of commenting goes on.I sometimes copy by blog post and create a post there. It’s different than just posting your link.
thanks for your comments.
wow – I used linked in, but some great info I didn’t know about..thanks for sharing Sherry…
Thanks Helen…glad you received some tips you didn’t know about. One thing I like about LinkedIn is that it’s less spammy and there are some really great blogs posted there. Tons of info.
Thanks for commenting.
