3 Basic Learning Styles: Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic.

You are probably aware or have at least heard of the 3 basic
learning styles of individuals but have you ever thought of how
they can effect to your business?

These learning styles are  Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic.

Going back to review some of my previous articles
regarding personal development, you may recall that
I have discussed how important it is that we read daily,
listen to audio daily, and take action daily.

Think about the type of learner you are and also think about
your audience when posting on your blog or shooting a video.
While many of us have a combination of these learning styles,
one is usually more dominate.

Which one are you?

1. Visual learners rely on pictures, graphs, diagrams, and illustrations.
They like the idea of “Show me”.  They will:

  • often close their eyes to visualize or remember something
  • find something to watch if they are bored
  • like to see what they are learning
  • benefit from illustrations and presentations that use color
  • are attracted to written or spoken language rich in imagery

This type of learner will often sit in the front during a presentation
so they can watch closely in order to grasp the information. They
want to “see” what is being presented.  They prefer handouts,
writing on the white board, and reading.

It goes back to my point of reading.  A visual learner needs
to see the words in order to comprehend the information.

A visual learner may benefit more from watching your video
rather than reading the exact same information on your blog.

If you find that you have written a blog post that truly resonates with your
audience–maybe you should do a video on the same subject as well.

2. Auditory learners listen carefully to all sounds associated
with the learning. “Tell me”. This type of learner will pay close
attention to sound. Whether it’s the sound of your voice or
an audio.  They:

  • Prefer listening and taking notes
  • Listen for patterns
  • Consult peers to ascertain that they have the correct details
  • Can recall what they have heard
  • Can follow oral directions
  • Repeat words aloud for memorizartion
  • Use oral language effectively

If you are this type of learner, you will gain and retain more
information by listening to audio.

The same goes for your audience.  It may be more effective
if you post a video. This is something they can listen to
(and watch if they choose) to gain the information you are
trying to get across.

More than likely you will not know what type of learner your
audience is so it is beneficial to both of you to have options…
visualize or listen.

3. Kinesthetic learners need to physically do something
to understand it. “Let me do it.” These learners want to
actually touch what they’re learning. They need the “hands on”
experience.  They:

  • need to be active
  • speak with their hands and with gestures
  • remember what was done, but have difficulty recalling what was said or seen
  • want to do it themselves
  • rely on what they can directly experience or perform
  • enjoy tasks that involve manipulating materials
  • need the ability to move around
  • are uncomfortable in situations (webinars)where they lack opportunities for hands-on experience
  • communicate by touching

 They learn by doing.

Kinesthetic learners often learn more themselves when
they are teaching others what they know.  They learn from
experience and physical activity.  For instance, someone
may explain to you how to create a new cover photo or banner
for one of your social media accounts, but you do not learn until
you actually do it yourself.  Kinesthetic learners are “Doers”.

Most people use all three styles while they’re learning; however,
one style almost always prevails.

Which type of learner are you?  Did this post help you decide that?
