Maybe you just want to know “What is Instagram”?
Instagram is an online photo-sharing, video-sharing
and social networking service that enables its users to
take pictures and videos, apply digital filters to them,
and share them on a variety of social networking services,
such as Facebook, Twitter Tumblr and Flickr.
Instagram, known as a visual communication platform,
is looking for way to expand its appeal to its community
of 200 million (and growing) users.
It was rumored that Instagram would be preparing to launch
new private messaging features along with the photo and
video sharing service. This actually is a new feature in the
v5.0. This is being introduced as Instagram Direct and it will
allow users to send image and video messages to friends.
The messaging or conversation takes place below the image.
You will be able to chat back and forth between the person or
persons that you sent the message to. These messages are
referred to as “Moments” and they will all live in your inbox.
Messaging on Instagram adds a new experience to
it’s users as it started out as a photographer’s platform,
but it has evolved into something that creates social connections
between people and has led to an entirely different kind of social graph. Photos can lead to connections and connections lead to communication, sometimes more intimate and immediate
communication.
Instagram Direct is a simple way to send pictures
and videos to your friends.
The new app allows users to see an icon on the upper-right
corner of the home screen, and can open the inbox — a tap
away — to see stored photos and videos received from other
known people.
While the traditional way of sharing photos from the phone’s
media library or by clicking via Camera with the updated app
two new tabs are included: Followers and Direct. If you tap
Direct you can specify the recipients (up to 15) and add a
caption to the photo. The conversation always starts with a
photo, so it doesn’t allow you to send simple messages,
such as on Twitter.
If the recipients are online, their avatar will “light up” in real
time inside the chat to indicate that one have seen the message.
Photos and videos sent by mutual followers will appear immediately
in your inbox while others have to approve the request.
The Instagram Direct feature is available for iOS and Android
users only. As of now, we aren’t seeing any light for Windows
Phone users because the app for Windows Phone is still beta
and has a long way to chase the rivals.
