Do You Hear or Do You Listen?

Listening and hearing are completely two different actions.

There is a difference, strong but not always noted, between listening and hearing. We hear with our ears, but we listen with our minds.

If we want to understand listening, it helps to understand hearing.

Watch the video and think about whether or not you are a good listener or if you think you may need improvement in that area.

The physical aspect of the process is broken up in three ways.

Firstly, in mechanical form through the ear, the nervous system, and the brain.

Second, it occurs in the form of high, mid, and low frequency sound-waves.

And, third there are two different sorts of hearing: the conductive in which the vibrations made by sound traveling through the body, and sensorineural — the messages fed through and processed by the inner ear and cochlea.

Here are a few things to concentrate on to help develop your listening skills:

Sit Up
Look Interested
Lean Forward
Act Interested
Nob Your Head
Maintain Eye Contact
Ask A Question
