5 Tips For Organizing Your Day

Tips For Organizing Your DayIs your day organized in a way that you are able to get all tasks done?

While listening to the “Think and Grow Rich Mindset” call this morning, we were discussing the chapter on Organized Planning and in particular the section on “The Ten Major Causes of Failure in Leadership”.

(Note:   The call I was on is called the “Think and Grow Rich” mindset call and I would like to invite to you dial in on this call at  9am EST Monday-Friday: 712-432-0900 – Access Code: 565762#

The number one point was inability to organize details.  This reminded me that not only do leaders struggle with organization but many of us also fall short in the area of getting our day organized in a way that can be more productive and help achieve all of our goals/tasks for the day. Hence, 5 Tips for Organizing Your Day.

Watch my video below as I discuss 5 tips for organizing your day in order to achieve greater results.

5 Tips For Organizing Your Day

1.  Set Your Goals/To Do List – Know what you have to accomplish that day.  It may be beneficial to make out your list the night before and even if you have to add to it, that’s ok. Just make sure you know what you day looks like and plan accordingly.

2.  Prioritize Your List –  Organize your list in a way that your high priorities items get done first. Don’t procrastinate.  Know what is most important and make sure it gets done. Try doing the task that you like the least first.  Get it out of the way and you will be more relaxed and able to focus on your other tasks.  Without priorities, you can work very hard, but you may not achieve the results you desire because the urgent and trivial tasks are intertwined.

3.  Stay Focused On The Task At Hand – Eliminate all distractions.  Distractions and interruptions are part of life; however, knowing what to do to minimize the interruptions you face during your day is vital to managing your time effectively. Don’t answer the phone if it rings.  Don’t worry about your text messages.  Focus on one thing at a time until it is completed.  By doing this, you will be more efficient and feel better about the task you just completed.

4.  Set A Specific Amount of Time For Each Task – Using a Time (Jumbo Stop Watch is a great tool to use). Allot enough time for each task but when that time limit is up, stop and more on the the next one.  For instance, if your goal/task is to do marketing for an hour, set your stop watch for one hour and at the end of the hour move on to the next task.

Jack Canfield in his book “Success Principles” suggest that you determine the 5 most important things that need to done for the day and making those the priorities.

5.  Take Action – Writing down your list and prioritizing it doesn’t accomplish anything if you don’t take action.  You may have your goals organized in priorities and written down on things to do list;  you have a plan to manage distractions,  and pumped up to finish all the things  on your list. Take action and just go and do it.
